Question:

Which race should I focus on?

I'm trying to decide if I should do the 400 or 800. Here are my times:

400-1:24

800-3:00

Yeah, I know these times suck but my fastest time in the 400 was a 1:16 when I was in 5th grade (I'm going to be in 8th this year).

I was just wondering what people thought would be the best race for me.

I don't know if this means anything, but I'm 50% white, 50% asian. I just put that in because usually, but not always, people of European descent are better in longer distances and people of African descent are better sprinters.

Thanks

  1. your better at the 800 so i would stick to that. also if you work at a longer distance it will be easier to go back to the 400 later on... good luck!

  2. haha lol.  im 14 and just got out of 8th grade. my best time for the 800 is 2:35.   my personal oppinion is that u should do the 800.  this may be because that was my best event but the 400 is supposed to be a full out sprint pretty much and if you do it in 1:24 then thats pretty bad.   stick with the 800 and pace yourself thats my secret weapon and i alleways get 1st place. whenn ur running breathe once and count 1   ,    2 ,     3. with the whole mississippi thing then breathe out while your counting to three again then breathe in again while counting to three.   when i say breathe in i dont mean take one gulp then hold ur breath for 3 seconds.  i mean the whole time ur counting,  be breathing in,,   ye pretty much

  3. I would pay more attention to the 800.

3:00 is not bad at all, considering the fact that most highschool boys in my area were running the 800 in 2:00 flat

and secondly your only in the 8th grade.- not bad not bad at all

you might want to consider joining a running club or track club in your area during the summer, they have ton of meets and some of them go on to the junior olympics every summer.

  4. haha you fat girl lol you must wieght around 200 lbs

  5. u can focus on both if  u want to i would. those times dont really suck u just need to push yourslef and try running faster.

  6. do 400

  7. white

  8. Sprinting is very talent based. If you're not a great sprinter now, it's tough to become one. But anyone can become a good distance runner with proper training (that includes 800).  It's much easier to improve in a mostly aerobic event.

And FYI the best 400m runner in the world is a white guy from Texas, and the best distance runner is from Ethiopia!

  9. I would stick with improving the 400 more.

  10. Africans win most Boston marathons!

  11. go with the race your hero is in.

  12. Do the 400, the statistics show your faster on the 400 than you are on the 800. :)

    Good luck.
