  1. Cabernet Sauvignons and Zinfandels have the most tannins.  The higher priced cabernets like Silver Oak and Kenwood are still tannic, but not as bitter (and absolutely delicious!!).


  2. Most of the tannin is removed from all wines by filtration. Reds contain the most but after the filtering there's very very little left, no headache unless you drink a lot.

  3. Typically heavier reds like Cabernet Sauvignon will have more tannins. Wines that are aged longer like red Bordeaux varieties will also be higher in tannins.

  4. Cabs and Zins usually have more than lighter bodied wines.  But tannins correlate more with the vineyard, wine maker and age than with particular varietals.
