I really love Rioja (reserve) and am interested in some not too sweet but fruity wines with body? Also any wine that's a bang for your buck is appreciated!

  1. These wines are soft and often quite fruity.  They should fit your bill.

    Tempranillo

    Sangiovese

    Zinfandel

    Pinot Noir

    .

  2. I like Pinot Noir not too strong but not too light either. Great with fish, beef, chicken...anything really :)

    Mark West $13.99 (Whole Foods)

    Estancia $12 - $15 (Ralphs/Trader Joes)

    Castle Rock $12 - $15 (Ralphs/Trader Joes)

  3. I too love Rioja.  Riojas are blends of red grapes with the major grape being tempranillo.  I relate the wines of Rioja with many of the fine Chiantis.

Chianti is also (but not always) a blend of red grapes from the Chianti region in Tuscany, Italy.  The principle grape, of which the wine must be 75% to 100% is Sangiovese. Chianti is an excellant dry red that may be appreciated by the Rioja wine lovers.

If you are looking for something a little sweeter, I would suggest an Amorone from the Veneto region of Italy. The Amorones though, are a little pricey.

Also if you favor the Riojas, try some reds from the Ribera Del Duero region of Spain.
