  2. Cliche, but I think Auckland especially because of employment opportunity.

  3. Depends. If you don't mind the cold, and have the right skills Dunedin is a good choice - less expensive housing, less expensive groceries, insurance is *way* cheaper than Auckland, and there's less pollution (usually) and a much more relaxed attitude with no traffic issues. Schools are pretty good too. Catch is to get a job - some industries don't pay very well and have few jobs.

    Christchurch is more expensive, but pollution in winter is terrible.

    Wellington is more windy, hilly and fairly expensive with some traffic issues, but also some excellent public transport.

    Auckland has the best job prospects, but also has some of the highest costs and has the worst traffic by far. It has some of the worst, and some of the best schools, but to get into the best ones you'll have to fork out about a million to buy a house in the zone.
