Which regular household Item can I mix together to clear a blocked drain?

Someone told me if I mix vinegar and baking soda and throw it down the drain it will turn into acid and clear it. I just want to know if it is true?

This of course makes CO2 gas which is unless, unless you quickly plug the drain with a wet rag.  The gas will then build up a little pressure which can then force the clog out and clear the drain.  It can work but I still prefer the old fashioned rubber plunger.  Hold it tight and repeatedly stroke it fast.  Sometimes you need to plug the sink overflow on a bathroom sink with a wet rag.
