Which requires more water? A cut or uncut lawn?

I'm trying to conserve water and only have a fraction of my yard covered with grass. I got to wondering if long grass consumes more water because there's more biomass to serve, or if cut grass consumes more because it's been cut.

  1. During hot Summer days it is best to keep your lawn a bit longer to prevent the heat from burning the roots ,therefore raise your cutting blade a bit , if your grass is short it will require more water to stay green .

  2. I think longer grass retains moisture. Shorter grass requires more water to keep it green.

  3. Generally, a cut lawn has more evaporation and the cutting stimulates new growth, so more water is required.  If you cut your lawn, leave the clippings to provide a mulching effect and return nitrogen back to the soil.

  4. a cut lawn.
