I’m about to make my first road bike purchase. i sold my mountain bike and I have about $200 dollars to spend. I just want an entry level bike nothing fancy.

But my question is, can i ride the bike on gravel or rough concrete paths for short periods of time?

Because in order to get to the streets of my neighborhood I need to cross this old road.

Also any good suggestions for my first road bike? I heard Schwinns were good. At wal mart there is a bike called the Men's Kent GMC Denali Road Bike for only $158 is that good? I doubt it but please put your opinion down. Can’t wait for your answers :)

  1. schwinn have heavy frames bike's,good for a good work out, just don't get 1 with heavy black rims, you'll thank me for not getting them, lol, carbon, trek are good bikes,,i suggest you get 1 with a light frame so you'll go faster, with aluminum rims,as long as your not going to be jumping curbs, pretty costy to be buying these types of rims if your going to be doing this,i ride 15 miles daily on open state highways with 27" in rims ,27 1/4 tubes @90 lbs.most bikes come with 26" rims but you can upgrade if you want to be higher off the ground

  2. I doubt if you can get anything worth riding for $200.00.  My wheels alone cost $400 each.  Keep working and saving until you have about $1000.

  3. In that price range, look at a used bike and while doing that, save a lot more money. I have realized in my never ending search for the perfect bike, that the difference in choices of bike in the price range of $300 is 10x better than a $200 range bike. PLEASE don't buy anything from a big box store like wal-mart. you'll end up putting more money into it than what you paid for.
