  2. b.  Sedimentary rocks are merely lithified sediments that were deposited at the bottom of rivers, lakes, oceans, or by wind (sand dunes).  Living organisms are deposited along with the sediments and, if the conditions are right, fossilized during diagenesis (the process that turns loose sediment into rock).

    Note:  This question can be a little tricky because, depending on the degree of alteration, metamorphic rocks can also contain fossils.  Of course, in this situation, the protolith would have to be a sedimentary rock (a sedimentary rock done got metamorphosed).
