Which safari?

Im going to kenya next june and am going to book a safari when were there.

Staying at bamburi beach hotel.

Dont know which safari to do?Tsavo east or west?does anyone know which is the best?and want to stay in a tent in the bush not a lodge?

Tsavo East has only one lodge -Voi Safari lodge - 6 tented camps, while Tsavo West has several lodges and public / privae camp sites.

when you arrive at bamburi beach hotel, look over the sun deck at the beach below, ask for elton, he works for north mombasa tours, he will show you all the pamphlets on different safaris and prices, make sure you bait the price down, they expect you to do so,we are going to bamburi beach hotel on monday, arriving tuesday 22nd july 08. the tour operators are too expensive for their safaris, and they will tell you all sorts of stories to put you off the beach boys selling safaris, take no notice,there okay.

I'd recommend Tsavo west, though you will have to spend longer getting there it's well worth it.  

Buy your trip from the local boys, then you know you're giving something to the local community rather than a big European tour operator.  It might be a bit hairy at times, as the distances you have to travel are vast, but there are so few lodges that you will stay at some fabulous places no matter who takes you there.

We enjoyed Taita Hills and Ngulia Lodge especially.  At Ngulia they hang meat out to attract wild cats who eat the meat while you are eating your meal in an open restaurant 50 feet away.  Stunning experience!  

Staying in tents is much more expensive, and the tents are so permanent that it's not much different to staying in a lodge.

As an extra tip, if someone comes up to you and offers you a beach safari, take it.  I got one for a couple of pound, and the guy showed me all sorts of things that you wouldn't find on your own - octopus eggs, sea slugs, and loads more.

You'll really enjoy it.  I wish I was going again.
