Which sand paper should i use on my snooker cue?

I have a newish cue and the tip needs a file down and it's also heavly varnished? Please can someone tell what I should rub it down with. Many Thanks.

what purpose?

for cleaning, you don't have to use sand paper, just use wet towel to clean up the shift and then use dry towel to dry it.

for modification, use No. 400 sand paper and then use No. 1000 sand paper.

start with a rough sandpaper especially if you want to reduce your shaft's thickness then finish it with a finer sandpaper to smoothen it out.

Woah hope im not to late .DONT use rough on the shaft at all like in NEVER like the other answer said scotchbrite for the shaft just to dress up the varnish a bit

on the tip 40 grit for shapeing the tip once you get a nickle or dime crown just leave it rough untill you need to dress it with a scuffer or pick  whatever you like best(Iuse a pick)on mine

Use some scotch-brite, it's similar to the scouring cloth used for cleaning saucepans.

If you have just brought a cue the tip that was on it is no good. It is just to protect the cue. Completly take it off. Get your self a Blue diamond tip. You can get these from sport shops or your local snooker hall should have them. If you are a member of a club ask behind the bar,they might be able to do the tip for you. When you get the tip onto your cue only use very fine sandpaper. DO NOT use the sandpaper on the cue itself.

Affix a small peice of medium glasspaper to a block of wood.Sand slowly.

Cue Chamois. Grinder or shaper for the tip and a tip pick is essential. Be very careful using anything besides the cue chamois unless you know what you're doing.

very fine sandpaper, coarse will rough it up. check with local snooker club, you might get one of it's members to help you.
