  1. If you're talking about controlled substances in the US, they're called Schedule 1 drugs.  Heroin, MDMA, and GHB are a few examples.

The term "no medical use" is a bit misleading.  Heroin was used during the Civil War as a painkiller for soldiers, although many soldiers who received heroin due to battlefield injuries wound up addicted for life.

  2. Yeah, Laura, as the above author correctly posited DEA Sched I agents cannot be prescribed, e.g. cocaine, LSD, heroin, etc.  That's just a statement that the DEA feels that these agents do not have a legitimate use in medical care and must be regulated as tightly as possible.  (Can only be used in research by those having Sched. I privileges, never in clinical medicine).

Sched. II through V are deemed by DEA to have "legitimate medical indications" in the current era.

That's not to say that these agents have "no medical use," rather that the DEA (Government) has determined that the dangers of these agents do not make them reasonable for health care providers to use in place of medications which are otherwise available and can be used.

  3. Usually those advertising instant cures for obesity, skin complaints in puberty, and anti ageing potions.
