I want to be a published author/novelist when I get out of college. Which of these two schools offer stronger programs in english that could help me get to my intended career at a higher success rate? I know that both these schools will provide a great education (and that being an accomplished writer is based on my own skills/talent more than anything), but aside from name and prestige, where can I get the most mind-stimulating education in my field and think-out-of-the-box kind of advocating faculty in my intended major? An honest answer is greatly appreciated (esp from an alumni/current student from either school). Please don't give me a biased answer based on school rivalry or what not. Thanks in advance. 10 points for best answer!

  1. Both schools are amazing and you would do very well at all of them, but Berkeley has more of an edge -- especially in the creative writing area. Berkeley is the epitome of the liberal/creative/thinking outside the box scene, and although UCLA fosters some of those characteristics as well, Berkeley would be a better school. To top it off, Berkeley is more widely known for its Humanities programs, whereas UCLA is more known for their its Science/Medicine/Math programs
