I'm a stay at home mom, I have 2 kids a 5y and 5m. There is this school which is really a min or two drive from my house, juz up the street and make a left and another left and its right there, my son is about to go kinder and his dad wants him in this other school (which is not in their district but considered one of the "good school") and he was gonna use a 'friends' address to get him in, and the school here I dont know much about but i'm tryin to do more research on it. it looks 'ghetto' and thats what im afraid of but i went in and its not so bad at all. this other school is suppose to be newer and is about 15 min away, I would have to take freeway. I would have to be responsible to take him to and pick him up from school, he had a roomate that could take him also and pick him up if we need to. but i feel that it would be so easier just because i have a little one, and gas saving to have him here at this school close to my home. What would you do?

  1. Send him to the one that is not ghetto. I hate ghetto schools, the kids have roaches in their book bags that they bring from home.

  2. If you lie to the school about your address, you are breaking the law.  You could be sent to jail, and will be made to pay the school back for all of the expenses the school incurred in educating your son, as well as fines.  Don't be stupid.  Send your kid to the school he is supposed to go to...just make sure you are involved.  Join the PTA and become a classroom helper so you can know what is going on at school.  Supplement what he is learning at school with extra projects at home.  Or, if the school is really that bad, it is time to move, not break the law.

  3. I'd go with whichever school will give your child the better education. Really, a 15 minute drive is nothing compared to a great education. Isn't a good education what every parent wants for their child? I'm looking at schools for my son that are 45 minutes away one way because of the education value these places hold. Plus, you wrote:

"I would have to be responsible to take him to and pick him up from school would have to be responsible to take him to and pick him up from school"

Seriously?! Isn't responsibility part of being a parent?

  4. I would send my child to the better school. Choosing a school is about what's best for your child not what's easiest for you. Think about how your child will do in a better school. So it's a 15 minute drive. Isn't your child worth it?

  5. It is illegal to send him to a school and lie about your place of residence.

I would tell my husband that, and if he still wants him to go to that school., let him lie.

  6. Well that's a tough one. My first reaction was stop being so lazy and do what is best for your son (which is clearly going to the better school... 15 minutes is nothing), but actually lying about your address to a school is illegal. Maybe let him go to the school he is supposed to go to for awhile, and if you are unhappy with it, have him moved (if you have a school choice program or something of the sort).

  7. I would go for whichever one is the better school. Im sort of in the same situation. My husband wanted our child to go to the local school which they could walk to. I chose one thats about a 40 minute drive away because its a gaelscoil (Irish speaking school) and it was importtant to me that my child is educated through Irish. Just do whatever you feel is best for your child.
