Which seat is the safest?

I'm going to be flying on a plane for the first time so I'm kinda nervous. Is it true that the wing seats are the safest? On an airline with 29 rows which would be the wing seats? Are the exit seats the wing seats?

  1. By pure actuary statistics, the most rearward window seats of any jet airliner has the lowest fatality rate.  The most rearward, left window seat is slightly safer by a few percentage points.  This is attributed to the lead pilot sits on the left seat of the plane in most airliners.

However, airliner flights are statistically the safest way of doing long distance travel.  Enjoy the flight!

  2. what are you a terrorist?? all of the seats are safe unless someone blows you up... just kidding they have federal marshalls there to protect you!!!

  3. Most people think the back of the airplane is the safest place to sit in case of a crash.

While I can't recall a single incident of a commercial airliner BACKING into a mountain at 300kts, think about this:

"When you mix stuff in the Cuisinart, you think it matters which end of the banana went in last?"

  4. They're all much safer than the one your going to be sitting in during your drive to the airport.

  5. On a modern, jet airliner, usually the exit seats located near the center of the fuselage are over the wings.  As a bonus, the exit seats are spaced a little further apart giving you a little more room.  In addition, the seats in front of an exit seat are locked and cannot recline into your lap.  Enjoy your flight.

  6. There are no safe seats on a plane. It is true that the wing section is the strongest and more likely to withstand crash relative to the other parts, but accidents have no formula.

Planes are much safer than cars.

    Enjoy your flight

  7. The one with all the instruments and the control wheel.

The rest are just along for the ride.

  8. Depending on the exact nature of any potential airplane mishap, one area is not always going to be safer than the other. However, a recent study of crash data suggests that the rear of the airplane is the safest place to sit. Personally, I do not think about such possibilities and always try to sit towards the front because it is usually a better ride. When you are in the back of the plane you are more susceptible to engine noise and turbulence. I have included a link to the study I referenced.

  9. Basically, it's all c**p. There are no seats that are "safer" than others. In the end, you and your fellow passengers are in a very fast moving, very thin tin can. Hit something and that's it...so why worry!

Take this example...an accident where a plane was carrying five parachuter's for a jump. The aircraft experienced some problems and crashed. One of the parachuter's jumped out but his gear open partially he ended up falling to his death. Bottom line ---it was his time!! He would have died weather the plane crashed or not.

Personally, comfort level wise, being a tall guy I always prefer the first row as I can stretch my legs. Noise is also low.The rear is too noisy and during turbulence shakes a lot.
