Question:

Which seeds can I plant this late in New York?

I live in upstate New York and I just started my garden this year. I had no idea it would be as successful as it is. I have mature tomato crops, an assortment of berries, lettuce, broccoli, and assorted herbs, among other things.

I just planted some wildflowers (very easy to do - just scatter!) and baby spinach. I was wondering if there are any crops I can plant this late in New York? The seedling selection isn't great around here.

I'm interested in edibles, herbs, etc. only!

  1. Try beetroot. There are some varieties that takes only 45 days from seed to crop. You can also plant cabbage, but it is better to purchase seedlings.

  2. Plant seeds.  Kale, spinach, lettuce, arugula, beets, chard, kohlrabi, radishes, carrots, etc.   It's the perfect time to plant cool weather veggies.  Check seed companies online for more ideas on fall planting.  Have fun and enjoy the bounty!
