I'm interested in taking some sort of defensive class, whether it be from martial arts to kick boxing

  1. Ju jitsu

  2. Aikido does not teach any striking techniques, except as attacks to which the practitioner can practice Aikido techniques.

  3. Jujitsu is good for escaping holds and give holds. So is Brazilian Jujitsu, but BJJ is used when your on the ground. Still both are very good in the whole holding thing. Hope this helps

  4. Try this site  www.protectusfromevil.com  We've purchased some personal protection products from here and I know they have self defense videos and they can recommend items for exactly what you're looking for.

  5. Weel, I think Jiu-jutsu is kinda nice for that

If you watch the olympics, you can see the demosntration

They escape holds like lightning and come out on top

Don't know of any others though

But Jiu-jutsu is pretty easy to find

  6. Japanese Jiu-jitsu.

    Best wishes :)***

  7. Four arts come to mind right away.  The popular, Jiu-jutsu, Krav Maga Akido and Combat Hapkido. Combat Hapkido pulls Akido and Jiu JUtsu together and has the principles of Krav Maga in reference to economy of movement.  Also with the different circular, water, and adhesive principle focuses mostly on directing energy not combating it.

  8. Oh, I like this question! XP

There are a lot of styles that nearly never actually strike.  You can pull people off balance, put them in holds and learn to escape from them, as well as developing qi (chi, ch'i) during your training, which can be used for martial purposes, medical purposes, blah, blah, blah, I could go on forever about the advantages of knowing how to use qi.

I would highly reccomend two of the many:

Tai Chi Chuan, which, depending on if you chose a good teacher, will also teach you to martial purposes, and introduce you to the magical world of life energy.

Aikido, which is less spiritual than Tai Chi Chuan, however, movements are similar.  It's the physical Japanese equal of Tai Chi Chuan.

I hope this helps, and hope you have fun and find the art that suits you best!

  9. The art of Krav Maga goes into indepth training on how to disarm an attacker, and also how to deliver just the right blow(s) that afford you enough time to get away to somewhere safe.

You won't see this in a competition, as it has been streamlined and used for pure self-defense training.

By the way, it is the hand-to-hand combat training of the Isreali National Forces!
