Which sentence is right?

1. Winning has become more important than playing to do your best and have fun.

2. Winning has become more important than playing to do your best and having fun.

Which sentence is right??

And why do you think so?? :)

In the first sentence, put a comma after the word 'playing', change the word 'to' to read 'so', and it will be fine.

In the second sentence, leave out the words 'to do' and then it too will  be fine.

Either sentence is correct, depending on your meaning. If you mean 'playing in order to have fun', then the 1st is correct. If, however, you are thinking of' 'playing' and 'having fun' as two separate items, then the 2nd sentence is correct.

1. Winning has become more important than playing to (a) do your best and (b) have fun.

2. Winning has become more important than (a) playing to do your best and (b) having fun.

In the above sentences, the verb forms 'winning' and 'playing' are called gerunds, and 'do' and 'have' are infinitives. You can omit the 'to do' from the 2nd sentence if you like, but you have to leave it in the 1st.

EDIT - Contrary to several of the answers, the 'to do' is NOT grammatically wrong (it means 'in order to do') although it is unnecessary in the 2nd sentence.

EDIT - Bluebell's suggestion for the 1st sentence is OK, except that it changes the meaning.
