Which shoes are the best for swing dancing?

For women, character shoes- or others that are very easy to move in.

For men, jazz sneakers, dress shoes, anything that are comfortable and won't fall off when you dance.

In truth, that depends on the swing you are doing.  I do west coast swing and wear men's jazz suedes with a cuban heel (I have big feet so I can't wear girlie shoes *grin*). The men I know in the WCS scene tend to go for flat suedes

The lindy hoppers I know tend to wear oxfords, split sneakers, or hightops.

I do Lindy and ECS and found that I love leather soles better than suede..  its easier to do turns and my ankles & knees get less of a beating ..
