Do they have a different sound? I have a Gibson les Paul Standard. I don't really care about the wattage because im just practising in my room. Im not playing with a band or anything but do they still sound different? And what about this amp? http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Hot-Rod-Series-Blues-Junior-15W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp-481861-i1392207.gc Its only a little more but its accually a tube amp. Now why would someone get that 250Watt Marhsall if you could get a tube amp for even cheaper? Isnt there a diff in sound?

  1. Really, it's all about your own personal taste. If possible, you need to find a store that'll let you try these things out so you can hear for yourself. There is a distinctive 'Marshall sound', so the two will sound broadly similar, but there may be any number of small differences between them which make all the difference to you.

As for the tube amp, well, since your guitar is by no means cheap I'd suggest that spending the extra for a real tube amplifier would be worthwhile. A Les Paul through a good, overdriven tube amplifier is a classic rock sound - if you can have it, get it!

15w amplifiers are fine for use at home, recording and in some cases small live performances. Theoretically, you could even mic it up and play a festival with it, I guess. However, the larger 50w and 100w stacks have a lot more to them than just more wattage: yes, they're louder, have more "oomph" etc., but they also tend to have at least 2 channels with independent EQ, higher gain, effects loops, and yes, they produce sounds that a 15w single channel combo can't...hence they cost more.
