Question:

Which should I major in Musical Theater or Voice/Opera?

I love to sing. It's one of my passions, but I don't know exactly what I want to do with my singing. I would choose Musical Theater but I can't dance and I know it is stiff competition and dancing is BIG. What should I do? (By the way, I want to be on stage).

  1. If given the choice major in Voice/Opera.  If you can succeed in Opera you will have no problem doing Broadway musicals.  Many of the roles require an operatic voice.

  2. Competition is in Opera as well as Musical theatre, so it's a lose/lose in that category.

I'm going though the same exact thing. College is in two years for me, and I don't know whether to continue on in musical theatre or start up the Opera thing (in which I've already started a little bit).

One thing to consider: Opera has language barriers.
