Okay I dont play any kind of instruments, and Im not going to take a class or hire me a teacher to learn those instruments but which one would be better for me to learn by myself with some book guides or something. I personally think I like piano but I have been told learning the guitar is much easier to learn on your own. So Im so confused right now, and I really want to start soon.. so any recommendations? which one would be a lot easier and better?

  1. You could comprimise and play keytar. if not then i would suggest guitar.

  2. Personally, I think you should try out both instruments for a little while and see which one eventually feels like the one you want to learn the most, because it's sometimes not that easy to tell without first feeling how each of the instruments are with you :) consider too, what genres of music you'd like to play. If you do these things, you'll feel more motivated once you choose, since you'll like the instrument, and the chances of you practising regularly and becoming a successful player will increase greatly :)

However, if you are still confused and struggling to choose, remember this: piano is a great first instrument to learn, because it basically sets a solid foundation in people about music, since the notes are all straight next to each other, so it's easier for people to visualise, whereas on the guitar, the same note can be at 5 different places on the fretboard. So it can be a bit more daunting for first time learners. (However, some of the technical aspects of guitar playing are easier than piano at first, which is why you have heard that it is easier. Although, after you've gotten through the bare basics, it's just as difficult as piano in the end). Also, once you've learnt the basics in piano, starting guitar from there is a whole lot easier, and you'll already have a good understanding of how notes are arranged, so it'll be a breeze :)

Good luck, I hope I helped a bit with your decision :) remember, keep practising! The results will be worth it! :)

  3. i had the same dilemma years ago and opted to learn the basics of both first. they are both easy to learn if you're really interested. but then i stuck with the guitar. my personal decision was based on portability.  it was easier and cheaper to get a guitar plus i could bring it wherever i want and this meant that i could practice whenever i wanted, too.

  4. I think you should learn how to play the piano. The piano sounds very beautiful. I personally taught myself how to play the piano. I tried playing the guitar and I had a hard time because of the positions my fingers needed to be in. Also I think there are more songs you can play on the piano, than on the guitar. For example the song from Corpse Bride, "Victor's Solo". I think that is a beautiful peace, and if it was played on the guitar, it wouldn't sound as nice.

  5. Guitar is easier to learn on your own. You can get into bands and stuff without any lessons and there are tons of things on the internet that help to guide you through with it.

Piano is better to learn with a teacher, but as you're not opting for that, then I'd stick with guitar. With piano, you can only get up to about grade three-ish (that is if you haven't learnt any instruments before, which you say you haven't), and even then you have to be pretty dedicated.

So, yeah, overall, guitar would be best. :)

  6. Piano. It is much more versatile than the guitar (you can play all styles with a large repertoire for each). Also, it is a much more 'social' instrument. Finally, it provides a very strong ground for musical learning. For many musicians it is often imperative to have at least some piano training.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

  7. Both..I'm schooling a piano school or something like that and also my dad will teach me how to play the guitar.

But for me, Piano is easier than guitar. So you should start simple like piano then you can try guitar next time.

  8. guitar was easy for me and pretty fun

  9. If you learn the piano, it is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to learn the guitar and vice versa. No matter what you do, stick with it and practice practice practice!

  10. depends on you. do you learn fast? what type of music do you want to play? how serious are you about learning how to play?  see nobody can tell you what you should play. nobody knows where your heart is but you. which one do you love more? don't worry about one being harder to learn than the other. what might be hard for me may not be hard for you. just put your heart and soul into it and everything else will work itself out...as long as you practice practice practice!
