my husband is overseas right now he wont be home for another six months. i will have about 100 dollars a month to work with. it is going to be his office or his garge i think he would like the garge done more he likes to work on cars so more room for him. he has alot of tools and has more coming home with him. and we have alot of stuff in there already from baby. i know some of the stuff could go. any ideas of what i could put in there like a couch or something so he can have a place to go with his buddies or i can make him go when he is bugging me. i have my sewing room so i thought it would be nice to do this for him. my sewing room is in our bed room. any ideas of how to store stuff and what to buy that does the most jobs. we do have some shelfs but they are too deep to work for what we need. any help. thanks. and do u think he will like it even though he wasnt here to do it. i also help to get him some new tools if we have the money. thanks, and what are some much have tools.

  1. Redoing the garage is a wonderful idea one of the best you could ever come up with.  Men, especially if there is a young child appreciate a "man's den".  A lot!!

Go to Lowes or a similar store and have a long talk with the tool manager.  He will be able to give some good suggestions.  Also ask around and see if you can get suggestions from his "buddies" who are not over with him on things they have done in their own "men's den".   [and, maybe they will even help??]

Oh and as for furniture in the garage...go for it!!  a nice medium range TV on top of a shelf with a small refrigerator under it, a small storeage cabinet for munchies next to that, a boom box radio, a couch that a man can plop down on, a recliner, some foot stools, old worn coffee table that a man would not be afraid to put greasy parts on while he watches the game, a telephone hanging on the wall with a long long cord on the receiver so he can set on the recliner and talk.........man heaven.

  2. This is a great idea.....paint to his favorite colors....this will make "his" space more efficiently. Then add all the extras to accommodate him and his buddies.

We found great painting ideas @ ProColorLLc.com

  3. I think you should redo the garage, too.  I did our garage two years ago when I was home one summer (I'm a teacher) and my husband was gone on business.  We were on a budget, so here's some ideas....

Go to Lowe's and Home Depot and be friends with the paint manager.  They sell the "mistinted" buckets of paint for less than half price, (I got two gallons of the same color for $7 each).  You may not get exactly what you want in finish or color, but since it is the garage, you can be flexible.  (My husband just liked green, and he still wouldn't know the difference between moss or sage or celery...)

You can get a couch from freecycle.  Go to freecycle.org and let folks know what you need and why.  I got a couch from someone and shelves from another.  You can also pay it back and freecycle the clutter you find in your garage.

Get some large plastic bins, and label them with stuff like "construction" "painting" "gardening" etc depending on what you have.  When you organize, just toss the little stuff in those bins.  They look better sitting on a shelf, and when you need to find them later, you just have to look in one bin.  And they aren't girly, so the hubby won't mind.

If you can go to Sam's or Costco, they both sell durable metal shelving for garages (here's a link)

    Hope this helps!

  4. i think the garage would be best.i would maybe get new tool bench(get large piece of wood, and get the l shaped things u s***w to the wall and board, the maybe get some shelves(again wood and l shape things) for the toold and such.i think that would be a great surprise and also something that will keep ur mind busy.they also have the wire shelves at walmart, those are easier to put up.and they will help clear space for him. check craigs list for a couch( i wouldnt get a new nice one for him to sit on after getting reasy)as far as anything that can go,have a yard sale and that way u can have extra money for more storage stuff.the plastic large containers are good and stackable
