I'm pretty sure the equator is the hottest part of the earth(the line around the center). It's frequently close to the sun compared to other parts of the planet.

Even though, when it "faces" the sun (in summer) the Northern Hemisphere/half/"side" is about 4 million miles further away from the sun than when the Southern Hemisphere/half/side "faces" the sun (their summer, the Northern's winter), due to more land area, it is the location for the hottest temperatures recorded on the surface.
