  1. Not Positive but Hot.

    Hot: The narrow slot on the right (if the ground is below).

    Neutral: The wide slot on the left.

    Voltages:

    Hot to Neutral 120VAC

    Neutral to Ground may be a few volts difference if the loads in the house are not balanced.

    All of the above is true if the wiring is done right.

    You can buy a Tester for $8 at Home Depot. It's handy to have, to verify that all of your outlets are properly wired.

  2. If its polarized, the smaller hole...

    non-polarized, normally on the Right side if the ground is at the bottom on each plug.

    If you want to be sure on your outlet, just take he plate off and with a flash light, see where the back wire goes
