Which signing has been the most surprising to you this off season?

I'm going to have to go with Chicago signing Huet. The Hossa signing was surprising, but nowhere near as surprising. I pretty much knew Hoss was leaving the PENS but I really thought Huet would stay with the CAPS.

Btw, here's a little side note that deals nothing with the question. I will not be on for the next month. Yes, you have seen the last of me until mid-August. Starting next week for the next two weeks I have band at my school all day everyday, then for the two weeks after that I have to go to bandcamp. THEN after that my family is coming up here and I have to get ready for my sister's wedding......For once I feel like I have a life this summer. lol.

So, I wanted to wish everyone a happy rest of the summer, and just let you know I didn't just disappear. =b

  1. Detroit getting Hossa for sure.  They've already got so many superstars, that I was surprised they could even afford another.  Plus, I figured they had such a stacked, solid team that there was little need to sign anyone big, let alone Hossa.

  2. Huet going to the Blackhawks i thought he would deffinatley stay in DC

  3. Gary Roberts not being signed was a shocker to me. He was a fan favorite here in pittsburgh. everybody loved him and he was one of the few physical players the pens had. I dont know why the pens let him get away. I guess they couldnt afford him after the contacts they gave Malkin and Fleury!

  4. For me, the most surprising signing this off-season was Ryan Malone being signed by Tampa Bay. He's over-paid, in my opinion. He's not THAT good of a hockey player.

"One time, at band camp..." Lol, bet you haven't heard that one before! Have fun!

  5. The Hossa signing came out of nowhere. What was really surprising was that he only signed for 1 year (not that I'm complaining).

  6. I agree with you but I still think Hossa was the most surprising because he went to the Red Wings. And he said that he did it because he wants to win the Cup with them this year. Traitor!

Have fun! See you in August.

  7. I'm not surprised Hossa bailed on the Pens but I am surprised the Wings signed him. I too thought Huet would stay with the Caps. The biggest surprise is the non-signing of Sundin. I was positive he's re-sign with the Leafs before July 1'st. Like, I remember this time at bandcamp, we were talking about this very same......

  8. Hossa with the Wings.

  9. jason smith to the sens..i new he said he wanted to go to jersey so i expecteed him to leave my flyers..but then i heard the sens!!!

  10. hossa pissed and wings and hossa

  11. i was devasted when ryan malone went to the TBL. and shocked as sh** at avery getting with dallas but after my initial disgust i realized he'll be a good fight factor.

  12. Hossa... that ones still a shocker!

for my own team.. I gotta agree with tucker leaving.. That really came in surprise!

  13. It still HAS to be Hossa.

When was the last time in this age of greed, you heard about a player taking less money and a one year deal over a 5 year deal and more money each season just to play for a certain team in hopes of winning a championship?

Its a huge risk on his part, one that could potentially end up costing him 10's of millions of dollars in the long run.

  14. I thought like many above me that Hossa to the Wings was the biggest surprise. I think that it is near impossible for a team to win back to back titles in the 'new' NHL.

I thought that Huet leaving Washington was very surprising, but I was not at all surprised that Chicago picked him up. I think that was the most important pickup that any team did during free agency because Chicago really needed a great goaltender. I think they would've ahd the #8 spot last season if they had a decent goaltender.

  15. Yep!!!  I'm with the majority here..

Frakkin Hossa to the Dark side-- (I mean Wings) LOL..

They were already LOADED-- This just gave them another million rounds of ammunition..

Zam could very well be right-- risky move for a guy who coulda signed a MEGA- Multi year contract practically anywhere..

  16. Adios

Mine was the Blackhawks signing Brian Campbell or the Sabres trading for Craig Rivet

  17. Hossa going to the Wings is like, sleeping with your best friends Ex-girlfriend. You just don't do that, Conklin going there to makes it a slap in the face.

    Bro's before Hoss.

  18. I was surprised(happily) Orpik reupped with the Pens.  From what I understand, he and the coach detest each other.

  19. I have to agree with you.  I thought Khabibulin was really getting back to his old self... at least against the Wings... and the addition of Cambell I didn't think they'd make other major moves... they proved me wrong... Hossa shocked the world... but Huet is by far the most shocking... at least the Wings were mentioned in Hossa talks... Chicago was never mentioned for Cambell or Huet... unless you asked LITY :P

  20. Hossa but Tucker was a bit of a shocker to me too.

  21. I have to agree with you. I'm shocked we signed him and also I'm shocked we got Campbell, and overpaid for him

  22. I agree that the Huet signing was surprising but the Hossa signing came out of nowhere.  Holland said the day before signing Hossa that he wouldn't be going after any of the big money players.

  23. I also think Hossa simply because I didn't think Detroit would even go after him, they are already loaded w/ talent. But Huet is a close second. Didn't see that one coming either.

And right behind that I would say Dallas signing Avery. But then a lot of people only focus on Avery's antics and don't realize how talented he really is.

  24. Hossa really surprised me.

  25. Jose Theodore....after the Aves resurrected his all but dead career he pays them back by bailing. He couldnt handle the pressure in Montreal, went to the Aves where there was no pressure and turned his game around. Does he believe he wont be under the microscope in D.C. ? The next biggest surprise for me was a Hawk signing...but not Huet. Campbell cashed in and I am betting nobody thought the Hawks had a serious shot at him (great signing). My money was on his return to the Sharks for a serious run at a Cup.

  26. I'm going to have to say the Leafs' signing of Jeff Finger to 3.5 million a year.  This gives them four defensemen who make roughly $20 million per year.  With a 56 million dollar salary cap, a team would have to be out of its mind to spend so large a percentage of its cap on four defensemen.

    Oh wait...its the Leafs.

    Forget everything I just said.

  27. I'm going to go with Hossa.  He really spit in Pittsburgh's face.  I LOVE IT!

[Edit]  Jagr did surprise me to going to Russia.  I didn't see that one coming.

  28. I'll agree with Huet I was following the negotiations closely for obvious reasons, and it really looked like Huet wanted to stay and was going to.  In the end it turned out that he in fact did not want to stay, which made the Theodore signing all the more surprising.  Commodore's deal also surprised me, not because I thought he was going to a particular destination (though i did think he would make a great fit on the Caps) but because he seemed like a guy who would be making around 1.5 mil not 3.75.
