  1. The best FREE genealogy site in the world, not just the UK is run by the Church of the Latter Day Saints -  www.familysearch.org.

  2. Free BMD has most of the Birth, Marriage and Death indexes from 1837 to the early 1900s, it isn’t complete for all years but they have a table which tells you what years haven’t been transcribed yet:

The main advantage of the Latter Day Saints site which you have been given the link to in the previous question is that they give you the 1881 census free.

It is a good idea as well to have a look at and register with Genes Reunited, it is free to register and search, but there is a small annual charge if you want to contact people, although I think they can contact you on the free membership.  People often find distant cousins etc. who are researching a common ancestry.

Another posting site is Curious Fox where people post according to areas of the country they are researching families from, the same thing applies there is free membership and a small paying one:

It is also worth searching to see if there are family or local history societies for the areas you need as a few of them occasionally put some resources online.

  3. i dont know any that are entirely free.  the best site i have found is ancestry.com but its not free.  genes reunited is helpful and you can use the connections etc for free but if you want to search records you still need to buy credits.  i jwould suggest you just pay for a years worth of ancestry.

    good luck
