My daughter weighs around 130 lbs and is 5 ft 6 inches tall. Her pony is 14hand 2. What would be the right size of saddle to purchase for her pony.

  1. You need to make sure the saddle fits the pony first

But it all most sounds like she needs a bigger horse !

she is a bit big to be ridding that small of a pony

so any way the saddle should fit the pony right Then I would guess a 16 1/2/ or 17 and if she needs a 17 then she really needs a bigger horse

  2. Hi !!  Here's an answer to your question, I hope it helps!

A saddle should always be bought to fit the rider, before the the horse.  Never shop on-line unless you are sure you know what size to get.

The sizing also depends a lot on what you are using it for, dressage, cross country.  If your daughter is about 130lbs you will need (approx) a 15'',  but remember that saddles come in different widths as well. (narrow, medium, medium wide, wide, extra wide)

    Also remember these 5 points-

    1. The saddle must be clear of the spine.

    2. The saddle must not rest on the loins.

    3. There must be no pinching of the withers at the sides.

    4. The saddle must be level and the weight spread evenly.

    5. The saddle should also be checked with a riders weight on

  3. Depends on your daughters seat.  Try different saddle sizes to see which fits.
