What's the difference between thin, cheap fiberglas models and the fiberglas models w/ foam middles. We are looking for something that will take some abuse from our child and hold up for a few years.

  1. If your budget is low, under $100, then I would recommend a Zap. The least expensive board Zap carries is the Bullet. It is for beginner riders under 80 pounds. This runs about $60. The next one is a Bat. It is bigger, more durable, and for heavier riders under 130 pounds. It runs around $95. The last board is the Lazer. It is bigger, for riders under 115 pounds, and is about $100. All of the boards are great for beginners looking for a long lasting board great for sand skimming. When your child is older, I would recommend A Wedge, also by Zap. It is more expensive, about $160, but it is better for intermediate skimmers looking to ride waves. It comes in  three sizes. Also, I would recommend a traction pad, which gives you better grip. Traction pads are about $25. I would visit a surf shop to feel the weights of the boards and get the right size before you buy one. For more info visit www.zapskimboards.com                    Good Luck!
