  6. If you are using the term class in Marxist terms, as in working class (proletariat) or middle class (bourgeoisie), then, as the only thing I own is my own labour and skills/knowledge, I am working class.

However, if you mean class as in social status and economic power, as defined by demographic classifications using A, B, C1, C2, D and E class grades, I would probably be a C1 or B - lower middle class to middle class, as I am college lecturer.

By the way, don't tell my teacher this, as he'd have a fit if he read this answer-he's an 'international socialist' (a big one!)

  17. Why ask people? People who define their own class usually get it wrong. Most people who say working are actually lower-middle. I recommend running a Goldthorpe frequency table on a data set if you want to know the distribution of class in the UK.

  18. Well, I have to work, so I suppose...

But I'd have described myself as lower middle class.

    * I say 'loo' not 'toilet'

    * I say 'tea' not 'supper'

    * I say 'sofa' not 'settee'

    * I say 'living room' not 'lounge' - at least I try to.

So maybe I'm middle middle class with an inferiority complex.
