  1. WinZip you must pay for.  It is the easiest to use.

7-Zip is free.  It is a little bit harder to use.  It will compress even more than WinZip, but the person receiving your message must also have 7-zip to de-compress the file.  7-Zip will also compress in the .zip format that WinZip and newer versions of Windows can de-compress.

I have used both.  I prefer WinZip just because it is easier to use.

  2. There are a few programs you can use...

    - Winzip  //probally the most common used

    - 7zip  //i've only just heard of that program. but its good for compressing.

    and

    - Winrar // i myself use this program, cus it pretty much can open any data file/folder etc. also good for compressing.

just google any of those names, and your sure to get thier website :)

  3. winrar

    7zip

  4. Hello,

To compress a document (or generally a file), the software you use is not the only thing that matters. You should do somethings to make your document more compact.

One of them is using the compress formats of pictures in document, like jpg or gif, and to change their resolution to an optimum one. For example, if you use a high quality jpeg image in a document, even the best compressing program can't compress it a lot or if you use an image with 600 dpi resolution, this resolution is not optimum because it makes not difference between a 300 or 600 dpi image for you on a paper (e.g.).

Two common extensions (or two methods) for the compress files are available: .zip or .rar (some others available too, .arj and .gz and ... but not popular).

The more commonly used software for compressing is "Winrar". it can make both rar and zip files. You can set a password, split your file after deletion, even encrypt the name of files inside a rar archive. Download it from:

    http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&...

  5. Try bzip2. It works well with tar.

  6. I use 7-zip, easy to use and free http://www.7-zip.org/

You may however find that the files are still too large to email as ymail and hotmail have a 10mb limit on attachments.

If this is the case you will have to split the file into chunks and email separately. The receiver then just joins the chunks together using the same program you used to split.

The one I use is http://www.filesplitter.org/ which is free and relatively easy to use. Try this out yourself before you ask anyone else to so that you can instruct them on how to join.

Feel free to email me if you use it and get stuck on the joining process.

  7. try winrar and winzip  http://www.rarlab.com/

    www.winzip.com or www.zipgenius.it
