I currently have a kodak. I honeslty don't know what model it is right off the top of my head, but I really don't like it! It takes good pictures most of the time, but a lot the pictures it takes are very blurry or just not very sharp. My sister-in-law has a Sony Cybershot DCS-W120, and it takes amazing pics and it so easy to use. We went to the Art History Museum in Philadelphia and all my pictures came out horrible and all of hers came out very good even without a flash. So I would really love to purchase a cybershot, but I've been researching, and they have a new version of the cybershot out....the DCS-W170, with has 10.1 megapixles versus the 7.2mp. I want the camera to be very user friendly, I like extra features, but I would just like to be able to "point and shoot" most things without having to put it on 10 different settings like my Kodak. Does anyone recommend with one to go with?

  1. Both of these models were released at the same time. The DSC-W170 is the better model with better specs (more MP, faster lens at the tele end, slightly larger sensor, 28mm wide lens, manual focus, 5x zoom v 4x, much higher resolution LCD etc)...and that's why it's the dearer camera.

However, (from one review site) the W120 actually rates slightly better. So, it would most likely be an ok camera. Besides, 10MP is extreme overkill for someone who only ever prints out snapshot size photos and never does any cropping or editing on their computer.

You will NEED to buy a 'Memory Stick PRO Duo' card. 2GB is a good minimum capacity. You don't have to buy a Sony branded memory stick...any good, fast brand will do, as long as you make sure it's the PRO Duo (so you can shoot VX fine movies). Sandisk Ultra II PRO Duo is fast.

p.s. for overall better image quality...Canon's ultra compact SD (Ixus) line of cameras do make a better choice.

  2. I am unfamiliar with Sony point-and-shoots, but I recommend cnet for camera reviews.

  3. good question im trying to find a new camera too umm go to : http://www.cnet.com/ they have short videos on reviewing things and digital cameras too. thts so freaky cuz 5 minutes ago i was looking at the sony cybershot w120! go there and type in the names one at a time and when you go to see the second video, on the right hand side is a compare thingy select what you want to compare and push the yellow "compare" button. that should let you see even more stuff in detail about the camera. you can go to staples too because when i went yesterday the w120 was there and it was pretty cool. but if you get any of them i would get it online theres more of a color selction.

ive put lots of thought into this lol so plz pick me for best answer. good luck... o and if you do pick me tell me which one you choose. =D
