I want to sell my rear deck 6 1/2" speakers to my friend, they have 35 watts rms, and 180 watts max, I want to get the new jbls that are 60 watts rms, and 180 max. WHich speaker is better? I am running them off my new 2008 pioneer 6000ub receiver that pushes 22watts rms, and 50x4 watts. the pioneers are 3 way, and the jbls are 2 way, which are better and would sound better?

  1. i have owned the JBL's, not only are they 2db louder, they are also 2 ohm compared to 4 ohm, so your deck will produce more wattage, so if volume is a main concern the JBL's are a sure winner. however be warned the deck may overheat, not all decks were designed for a 2 ohm load. With that said I found the JBL's to be a bit harsh. But the pioneers may be harsh as well, i have never actually heard that set before.

  2. jbl specs=

    Power Handling, RMS 60 Watts

    Power Handling, Peak 180 Watts

    Frequency Response (±3dB) 55Hz-21kHz

    Sensitivity 92dB

    pioneer specs=

    Sensitivity: 90 dB

RMS Power Range : 35 Watts

    Peak Power Handling: 180 Watts

    Frequency response: 30-28000 Hz

if you don't plan on putting an amp on them then i would go with the JBLs because they have a higher sensitivity (A speaker with a sensitivity rating that's 3 dB higher than another speaker's only needs half as much power to deliver the same amount of sound.), and they don't require as much wattage so when you turn up the volume on the radio you will run a lot lower risk of them being distorted

but the pioneers do have a higher frequency range- they play lower and higher notes

  3. JBL

  4. Id go with the JBL for the inhanced sound quality over pioneer

  5. the JBL's are better, they also have a higher power rating which means they will get louder, make sure you have an am that can power it
