Which speakers would be best for me?

I'm looking to pretty much build a sound system from scratch. I need an amp and some floor standing speakers to use for large parties (not more than say 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall) and a subwoofer. They need to put out some serious sound and bass without getting damaged (think enough sound for a 50-100 person college party) But honestly, I know very little about audio systems and amps. What size/wattage/etc should I be looking for in my speakers, subwoofer and amp? My friend has a pair of nice speakers (don't know which kind) and a sub that we've used for parties before, and the lyrics to songs can be heard clearly about 1/4 mile away at about 3/4 volume (if you go up any louder the speakers will prob get damaged) So I am looking to have a system relatively similar to that. I also would like to spend under about 600 dollars in total, but I could go up to 700$ and maybeeeee 800 if I make enough this summer. What should I be looking for?

  1. umm why don't you try Bose? the most respected name in sound.

  2. Im a home theater designer so I know

I say get a 200W amp with a pair of JBL L100 speakers

    Bose Blows

  3. paradigm speakers. a company from canada. they produce many lines of speakers the studio models are a good place to look. check their web site. www.paradigm.com

  4. I am going to agree with AJ. I would stay away from Bose. For the price you would pay, to get them to work on an aftermarket amp, and the quality of sound that they lack. It isnt worth the price. I have a Yamaha 6.1 home theater system with a set of JBL SC S700.1 and they rock.
