  1. High, or low, blood pressure can be a symptom of many illnesses so a general practitioner (family physician) is still your best bet to get started. They can refer you to a specialist if necessary.

    However, since blood pressure is related to the circulatory system (cause by and affecting), some people will consult with a cardiologist. Depending on your country, many will make you go through a general practitioner anyway.


  2. An internist or family practitioner is the best person to see, unless the pressure is particularly difficult to control or has led to other heart problems.  If that is the case, the primary care physician will refer her to a cardiologist.

  3. In the UK a variety of specialists will address high blood pressure. GPs will handle it in the large part. In hospital, it is typically the remit of the cardiologist, endocrinologist, or renal physician.
