  1. Philodendrons are tolerant of low lighting conditions. There are a great number of species and hybrids which actually prefer no direct sunlight.

Often seen in offices, also, is Monstera Deliciosa, the Swiss Cheese Plant, which is sometimes listed under Philodendron.

Dieffenbachias come in many species and hybrids with variously speckled and spotted leaves that add lively color to a dreary corner.

Aspidistra, the Victorian Cast-Iron plant, is virtually indestructible, having survived airless parlors during that airless period of history. .A visit to a larger garden center will usually reveal different sorts, including those with variegate foliage.

Chinese Evergreen, Aglaonema,  is a fine low clumping plant with countless hybrids available in so many interesting foliage patterns, splashed and  spotted, speckled and striped.

Spathiphyllum (peace lily) actually prefers low light and refuses to bloom if there is too much light.

Many bromeliads will thrive and hold their blooms, as well, for quite a long time with very little light.Remove and pot up offsets to ensure perpetuation of your fine plant.

  2. Peace aka Swan Lilies (they need to be kept moist), for annual flowers, begonia semperflora, impatiens.

  3. spider plants are the most tolerant of bad environments and ill treatment1 ... you could also try busy lizzies

  4. pothos, hostas, ferns, ivy, easter lily

  5. African Violets
