  1. Well I'm an American, and I agree with you!  Rugby is infectious, and more demanding; furthermore, it gave birth to American football. Most football fans don't know that.

  2. To play and watch rugby union. Rugby league isn't as interesting to watch and american football has far too many stoppages

  3. I prefer rugby Union.GO ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!. American football shows no stamina just big blokes running with amour so they cant get hurt! Wimps!

  4. i ave played a game of american football last year and i was i start stop game there is one team for attacking 1 for defending with rugby only on team

i love rugby union league is ok but it dont flow right and the point are funny

i must say after playing all 3 sports rugby union is the best

  5. To play it would be Rugby.

To watch would be NFL. - it's better entertainment.

  6. RUGBY! Definately, I used to play rugby and I never could understand the game of american football and besides, rugby players aren't padded up to the hilt so their delicate skin doesn't get damaged! What is the point of playing a physical sport if you are going on with more padding than a lunatic's cell!

  7. american football is like most american sports...very tedious....they spend 90% of the time talking....then as soon as someone is tackled they stop again....baseball is even more boring than cricket and in this country is called rounders and played by girls....by the way union is way better than league

  8. I have to admit I prefer rugby. League is better in my opinion. But in defence of Amenrican Football, those are big, big men charging headfirst at each other! The armour is kind of neccessary, also look at the athleticism to move at the speeds they do wearing 40lbs of armour!

  9. Rugby both league and union. American footballers are wimps if thet need armour.

  10. Give me Rugby any day, it is great sport.  What is there not to love?  Nothing between me and the next guy. I love the "FRONT FIVE"

    For me League

  11. why not ask this question in the america football section to get a fair answer......everyone in the rugby section will obviously say they like it more.......personaly like the other guy that answered i like his point about the two sports being different.......our game is different and because of that we need pading.....there would be 10 times more deaths than rugby if there wasnt any padding because someone can get speard in the back in football when catching a pass whereas in rugby its either side or forwards tackles.........i play both and respect both.......and it hurts a lot more to get tackled with a helmet in the gut than nothing at all.......so dont knock it until you've tried it

  12. I have played both and I am American born.  DO not discount the athleticism or punishment that is involved in American football until you have been hit head-on by a plastic and steel projectile traveling at world class sprinter speeds carrying 300 + pounds behing it.  I will take a person without the helmet and pads hitting me any day (i.e. helmets hurt)

Now the truth is that I prefer Rugby Union just because I like some of the ways the sport works.  I think it sounds ignorant and just childish when football fans put down rugby or rugby fans put down football as not a sport, not athletic, etc.  They are just different.

Keep in mind American Football is very media based and thus has to stop often to accomidate commercials.  You may think that is not right but you will also notice that it is near to impossible to see rugby on television in the United States because nobody can pay for it to be on TV without commercials.  So us rugby players may get a little victory in that we can say we don't bend to the media but then here we get no media.  With all of the differnt cultures we have in the US and all of these fine atheletes that are here or migrate here few ever even see rugby much less will they ever play it.  Our best atheletes will play the sports they see in the media.

If you would like more details about the differences in my opinion having played both see the other 100 times I have answered the same question (Don't we get this question like once a week).

I still play Rugby in Hayward California (Go Griffins)
