  1. First off I want to say that swimming is most definently a sport. ESP competitive.

But, I would say gymnastics is alot harder. There are more moves which uses more of your body and is more demanding in my opinion.  But I don't think swimming is easy. It takes alot of strength too which alot of people don't realize. Also gymnastics has many hours of conditioning in which they use the floor beam and bars to make us work. This is just my honest opinion  though, and some sports are harder for different people, because they are both very different. :)

  2. I've done both competitive swimming and gymnastics. Each for a very long time, and I must say that gymnastics is harder. There was more strength training, higher risk skills and activities, more flexibility involved, and no off season. That's not to say that swimming isn't hard, every sport is difficult in it's own right, but in my opinion gymnastics is more difficult than swimming.

  3. I would say that gymnastics is harder. They are required to do flips and crazy jumps on a beam or floormat.

However, swimming is a sport and you have to be a very good athlete to be a good swimmer. Don't let anyone tell you different.

  4. I've never heard anyone suggest that swimming isn't a sport. It's a lot more technically difficult that many people realize and no-one could say that those endless hours of training aren't incredibly hard.

That said, I think gymnastics is probably harder. Mastery of all of the gymnastics disciplines is incredibly difficult and requires many hours of training every day. Injuries are also more common than in swimming.

  5. gymnastics is harder, allot of the things they do most people cant even begin to attempt. most people can swim to some degree just not on a competitive level. swimming as a sport is hard just gymnastics is harder in my opinion.

  6. I would say gymnastics is more difficult although swimming requires better cardio. Gymnastics is very dangerous and takes alot of commitment and there is ALWAYS something new to learn, unlike swimming where you just get better at the same things. I was on a swim team for a while and I have a friend who was a state champion at swimming and its all about commitment. If you do the same ammount of hours in a week for both sports, gymnastics would be considered more difficult. There are more injuries and that hinders your ability to improve also.

  7. swimming is indeed a sport.  That's a tough call on which is harder.  Having been a swimmer myself, not elite of course, I would say that swimming is more raw power.  Gymnastics is more finesse.

  8. well they are both really hard.....me myself i have been both on a swim team and a gymnastics team and for me gymnastics was more challenging and also more fun....but i wasnt on the elite level so i dont really know.....

  9. i do both, don't swim competitavely tho.  gymnastics is harder.  and swimming is a sport.  with gymnastics you need all over body strength to do all the flips and twirls.  swimming is hard, it's a lot of work.  but gymnastics takes more balance and flexibility.  they are both hard so don't let anyone tell you it's easy

  10. Well gymnastics is very quick movements that usually last only seconds, while in swimming you need to have amazing endurance.

Depends what kind of person you are, why dont you ask those people who say swimming isn't a sport to go train with you once and a while?

  11. I am a gymnast and have been a swimmer and honestly I would have to say that gymnastics is a LOT harder. I train for 6 hours in gymnastics 5 days a week and it is SO hard. We are required to do tons of conditioning like running for an hour without stopping then at the end sprinting 5 times around the floor and jumping over 10 boxes about 2 feet high 3 times. After that we have to do 100 pushups and 100 situps as well as 50 rock and jumps. [extremely hard!!!]  Also for everything that we do it involves tons of stamia and power. You have to have the right balance between grace and strentgh. No matter how hard something is you have to make it seem effortless. I think that swimming is FOR SURE a sport and it is very hard but in my honest opinion I would say that gymnastics is harder.

  12. im in gymnastics and id have to say gymnastics is way harder then swimming

  13. I'm a swimmer too and it is definitely a sport. I would say swimming is harder in the way that it requires a lot of endurance but gymnastics is harder in the way that is requires a lot of refinement.

  14. i only take gymnastics and i have to say it takes a ton of strentgh, focus and endurance. not to mention you can hurt your self easier. swimming is hard though. it also takes endurance, but your not flipping through the air. i would have to say gymnastics is harder.
