  1. I have played both sports and American Football is rougher, more violent, and has more vicious hits.  Its all in the rules.  You cannot block in rugby. In rugby, you must 'form tackle'; control the other players body when tackling.  In American football, you can turn yourself into a missile and launch yourself at other players.  The most vicious hits are on kickoff and punt returns in American football.  Running 40-50 yards at full speed and slamming into someone is violence at its best.  I would rather play international rugby than American football.  Union rugby is a more flowing game like Soccer/Football and has a lot less starts/stops/restarts than American Football and League Rugby.

  2. Rugby.

  3. I'd gladly play pro rugby over pro football.  Rugby is by far the more physical sport, and puts much more strain on your body.  However, the padding in American football makes it a much more vicious and violent sport.  If you take a guy, pump him full of 'roids, then give him a helmet and padding, he's gonna feel invincible and tackle according.  In addition, the long rest periods allotted to teams in American football means that the hits are also harder since you don't have to continue tackling for 40min without a brief rest only to tackle for another 40min.

  4. I play rugby for the high school team....its a lot safer than football.

you may not think so because of all the equipment, but put it this way, if you have equipment you feel safe to hit much harder, in rugby, no one really gets hurt because no one can hit above the waist(rule). I am only 110lbs and played with 200+, I practiced with a sprained ankle (full contact) and i didn't get hurt at all, a few bumps and scratches but you get broken legs and bent back knees in football.

Im fine and will play again this season, (im still only 115 lbs)

    :P

  5. I'd have to go with Rugby. It's basically football without all the protective gear. As for the most violent hits... I'd say pro football.

  6. Im going with a different code of Rugby, called Rugby League. The hits are way harder than Rugby (still not as hard as football) and with no padding. In Rugby League, about 5-10 years ago it was okay to have a fight on the field. Still now in the Professional era it's 1 of the most violent sport.

  7. Rugby by far.  No padding.

Imagine getting flattened by a rampaging Jerry Collins or Victor Matfield

  8. ok rugby is a waaaaaaaay better sport, but american football is probably more vicious, but that's justcoz you wear so much padding so you don't feel the blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I'm going with Rugby!  However I think both have that potenial.

Neither!! I'm not that big! To scarey!

  10. Rugby is way rougher then Football. I play college rugby and i join the team just to hit people. Football have more vicious hits becuase they wear pads and they dont care if they get hurt.In rugby you cant hit people anyway becuase both of ya can get hurt. If i had to play one professionally, it be football just becuase rugby is not big in the USA and the NFL pays a lot more.
