  1. Snowboarding puts less stress on the knees, how many snowboaders do you see doing the splits. But snowboarding has more wrists accidents and shoulders/collarbone problems.

    each sport carries different problems.

but hey they are worth it.

  2. Skiing.  In either sport you're bound to fall.  Skiing allows to to fall however you want (bailing out on your side doesn't feel that bad).  Plus when you get up, you can use your poles to push off of the ground.

But in snowboarding you're bound to be either on your tush or your knees because of your position on the board.  Getting up tends to be harder than skiing.  If you try to push yourself up too much, you might fall back on your knees or tush.  This may put a lot of stress on your knees.  I've known a couple of people who have messed up their knees; although, they are snowboard enthusiasts.

  3. I had to give up skiing a few years ago due to bad knees. I caught a few edges over the years, so my knees were always my weakness. I now snowboard an I have had no bother since.

I feel that your legs are both fixed so you can`t twist them awkwardly when you do catch an edge, you can still hurt your kneecaps if you land hard on them, but it`s not too bad.

I`m not sure about statistics, but I reckon more skiers break or damages their legs than boarders.

  4. sking

  5. skiing because snowboarding is all about balance and requires your knees

  6. I would have thought skiing ,as you have the sticks to help you turn. Where as snowboarding you physically need to twist your knees to turn which puts ,more pressure on them

  7. It all depends on how good you are of a skiier/boarder, whether you ski/board hard terrain or easy terrain, what gear you have. All of these contribute on the strain you will receive on your knees, and als how long you are planning to ski/board in a day or weekly length of time.

Another one is whether you are going to race or casually ski/board.

Also moguls, and black diamond runs are also contributing factors to strain on your knees.
