  1. The very stage YOU are a member of at this moment.

  2. The humans with the largest known average brain size belonged to /Homo neanderthalensis/, the Neandertals, who are sometimes regarded as a subspecies of /H. sapiens/.  Regardless of that detail, their brain volume is typically 100ml larger than our own.

Whether this meant they must've been a bit more intelligent would be hard to justify, certainly in terms of the poorer quality of tools and other implements.  Then again, the quality wasn't comparatively worse until around 35,000 years ago.

  3. Homo Sapiens

  4. Brain size is not directly related to intelligence.

  5. Homo sapiens.

This wikipedia article has a good list to compare hominids.

  6. The things we are alive as today - homo sapians

  7. Adolescents have the largest brains. (You can always remember that because they "know everything".)

After adolescence the volume of the brain shrinks continuously as we age.
