  1. The lowest absolutely is Alaska. It has a negative tax rate. (The state pays people). The oil industry pays for Alaskan government. There are about a half dozen other states that have no income tax, but sales tax or property tax.

    There are a number of high-tax states. It would depend on whether you owned property, bought a lot of stuff, had passive income or no income or wage income, variables like that, which would be the highest for you individually.

    Bad states would include New York,New Jersey, Nevada, Connecticut etc.

  3. I live in PA, local tax is 1%, county tax is 6% though some counties are at 7%.
