I'm applying for my daughter who is 5 years old. We're a military family and I'm staying in the state of NC until December. Then we will be moving to California. I'd like to apply now....should I go ahead and apply here or wait until I move to California? If I get denied, won't I have to attend some sort of hearing here in NC?

  1. apply in california

  2. I applied and then I moved and my case was transferred my new city. I was in the same state and my lawyer just traveled back and forth. Your best bet would be to call the social security office and just generally ask what would be best without giving specific info on you or anything.. there is an 800 # you can call and get general info. I would try that.. they would be the best people to ask. The sooner you apply, the better. I would advise getting an attorney from day 1 because you will get turned down at least 3 times and it will take about 3 years. Usually if you have an attorney it goes much faster and they can take care of everything..all the paperwork, MD records, etc. since you are moving from NC to CA, it may be tough for you to get medical records on your own and an attorney can do that real easily. So if you use an attorney I would say wait till you move and then get one and go from there
