I am an elementary education major in Illinois and will be getting certified very soon. One of my professors told me there there are a lot of great teaching opportunities in the West, and that teachers can get jobs simply from phone intereviews (considering they have legit cerification for the state). Does anyone know which states these might be, or know of any other states across the U.S. which have good teaching opportunities? Thanks!

  1. I know that southern California and Nevada (Las Vegas) are cities always in need of teachers.  Actually, most major cities throughout the US, not just those in the West, are usually in need of teachers.

  2. Las Vegas needs teachers.  Their schools are growing at such a fast rate that they are always having to build new schools and needing more teachers.  Some districts also give you a sign on bonus if you are willing to relocate and teach out there.

  3. Alaska has some good opportunities, some districts offer bonuses for coming there to teach.  The cost of living is sky-rocketing, but it's a great place for an adventure for a few years.

Currently, the retirement plan sucks, but if you're young, maybe investing your own retirement wouldn't bother you like if you were older.

  4. Ohio or New york they give you great teaching skills and extra cash
