Stocks are affected by there relative trading volume at the end on the days close this will show whether a stock is in an over-brought or oversold state and will indicate whether or not the stock will trend up or down on a particular day.

Stocks are also affected by quarterly announcements and company reports as to how well the company has done over this period.

Many stock will follow there Main Index trend pattern although this many not always be true because of there relative higher/ lower EPS which may reflect why there break out from following the Main Index only to resume a day or two later.
