  1. I practice Tae Kwon Do, with a bit of Hapkido and Judo mixed in with some of the self defense we do.

I started TKD in the first place because it was the only available martial art anywhere near me and I wanted to do a MA. I love learning in general and everything we do in class is so fun and engaging and I really enjoy the variety of things we do. It's not just all kicks or sparring or forms. We do all those things plus self defense and other things on a regular basis. Personally, I wouldn't mind an all sparring MA, but I know that everything else is too important to leave out. :P For me, it's just a very well rounded martial art and I can see myself staying with it the rest of my life.

  2. Personally, i like muay thai it doesnt just use the fist and legs to attack it also uses the elbows and knees. It attacks pressure points and penatrates sensitives to paralyze the enemy and leave them with a dead leg for a week. One of the most suprising part of muay thai is that they train  until the nerves in the fist, elbows, knees, and shins are dead meaning u wont feel anything. But then muay thai teaches the individual how to become spiritual and teaches them respect. Muay thai teaches u the human anatomy as u go along so u know which part of the body is sensitve and vulnerable.

  3. Krav Maga. I want to be prepared for any real life situation. I also don't care about the rules and want to do as much damage as possible if attacked.

  4. I took Tae Kwon Do for five and a half years; I had to quit a few months ago, though. :'(

Why did I take it in the first place? ...well, honestly, I wanted to learn some martial arts and it was the closest school to where I lived... ^_^  ...but I don't regret it. The instruction I got there was good, and the school never lied or misled me on anything. I'm hoping to start taking capoeira or some sort of wu shu this fall or winter.

I assume you're considering taking martial arts... if so, I'd **STRONGLY** recommend these sites below. Please, please, for your safety and clarity, read them. And I'd also encourage you to click on the links to other webpages.

    Good luck!

  5. im a brownbelt in shotokan karate. comeing from the country.thier isnt a lot of choices. but i like karate because its a hard aggressive style. i like to punch and kick. to go after my attacker instead of  letting him or her make the first move.

  6. wrestling and boxing. I love the competition

  7. I personally like jiu-jitsu.  I like the ground game.  Jiu-jitsu is also more performance based on progression through the belts instead of how much money you pay and how long you do it.  Now it does take time to progress but your performance is what matters.

  8. Taekwondo/Hapkido, Kenjutsu (Iaido/Battojutsu), and I'm starting out in Shotokan Karate.

I practice/continue to practice Taekwondo and Hapkido in order to honor my Sabumnim who poured himself into my training and taught me not just about martial arts and battle, but also about how to be a good person. Kenjutsu I study because I love working with katana, as well as the deep tradition and history behind it, and Karate because the dojo is taught by a reputable teacher, which is exceptionally hard to find.

  9. I practice wing chun and bjj for the effectiveness. Also when sparring and grappling they tend to be like games of chess. What I am learning right now is hapkido, which is basically taekwondo with grappling. The reason for that is because taekwondo is overrated and hapkido is the only other alternative. :D

  10. It's cool to see that so many people practice so many different martial arts.  I train capoeira; a brazialian martial art.  I love it because it encompasses fight, play, dance, music, singing, acrobatics, philosophy, Afro-Brazilian culture, and so much more.  It's definitely different from what most closed-minded people call a martial art, but once you train with other good capoeiristas, you realize it's purpose a lot more.

Different personalities take it to their own places, but when we train together, we tune our skills while expressing ourselves in an art form.  It's a beautiful thing and though we don't hurt each other (except by accident or sometimes someone has it coming to them) during training, the tools are definitely there to defend ourselves.

  11. Tracy kenpo karate because it is a proven, original pure self defense system passed down from centuries ago.  It has no sport aspects or competition, just brutal no rules situational self defense against any situation, weapon, multiple attacker, ground etc.  I've studied many systems and this has what I was after.  Best of luck to you!!
