Arrange from best to worst - SPL, BASS, LOUD

All 15"

Hifonics - Olympus or Brutus

MTX - 9500

Kicker - L7

Pioneer - SPL Champion

Rockford Fosgate - Punch Stage 2

Alpine - Type R

I wanna get 2 15" for my 1989 Mercury - Grand Marquis LS. Its a big car with alot of trunk space.

Which subs do you recommend and what type of box should I use for them. Dont worry about the amp yet.

  1. Out of those, I'd go with the Alpine Type R, but for that price you can probably get two Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 3's, which are amazing subs. They offer loud clean bass. Sounds amazing.

  2. hifonics: ugh on both...

    MTx- 9500 loud but....no SQ.

    Kicker L7's decent spl.

    Pioneer sux for subs...

    rockford not bad...

    Alpine type r's not bad...

There are better subs for the price.... out there...

I would suggest checking into Fi Car Audio...the BTL line is the best.

Fi has the best bang for the dollar.  Cheaper than the RE Audio x*x and about equivelent in power sound performance.

Re Audio does make good woofers too.  But just have to pay a bit more.  The owner of Fi Used to own RE Audio.

DD Audio is amazing too but expensive as well...(Digital Dimensions)

    Great subs...

If you want SPL loud bass....go ported.

I would suggest 2 Fi BTL 15's if you want 15" subs.

Some sites you might check for reviews of the best subs out there including some on your list there....

    Realmofexcursion.com

    caraudio.com

both have some decent forums.  Realm of excursion will have a This vs that section to check out.

Soundsolutionsaudio.com has some forums and actually Fi Car Audio resides on their server.  Check them out...they will answer your questions and help you out the best they can.

  3. i would go with the rockford fosgate subs. i had one stage 3 15 and man did it hit and i only had it to a p300.1. the specs between the stage 2 and 3 are not that much of a difference. also hifonics there ok their amps are more well known. mtx there old skool subs dont get them to much trouble. kicker the l7 whoa thats alot of bass so you will spend money on trying to find the right amp. pioneer might as well buy walmart subs. alpine i heard they cant be pushed to much and the cones tear easliy. as far as boxes you should check rockford have some nice boxes such as bandpass boxes with their logo which look bad a$$. good luck remember go with what you like (style, sound, wattage)
