Question:

Which subject should I take?

I have just finished my GCSE's and have decided all but one of my AS Levels.

I have already chosen the necessary subjects which I need for the degree I intend to study, however I have one slot left and cannot decide between English Literature or Economics.

I was just wondering if anyone had advice on the subjects, which is likely to be more useful or held in higher regards by universities.

Thank you.

  1. English Lit is always highly regarded, Economics is also not a 'soft-subject' so to speak. I'd go with English Lit but that's just me, I was going to take Economics as well but decided on English Language. Which one goes better with your other subjects? Unless you want a broader curriculum. Economics will be more useful because it's very current-affairs.

  2. Both are well regarded subjects at university.

If you want something new, take Economics, it will teach you so much that you can take to the outside world, just watching the news will make so much more sense to you. Economics requires you to keep up to date with current affairs.

English Lit requires a lot of reading, so if you are good at interpreting it would be good.

I took economics at A level and loved it, but some people may not like it, it depends whether you are interested in current affairs or not.

    Both are essay based subjects.
