The alleged mass exodus going on for the NHL Penguins is maddening, so in the spirit of the upcoming free-agency season, I pose this question: will the Penguins have a winning season next year, or will the baseball Pirates shock the world with a winning campaign?

  1. Penguins

  2. penguins!!!!

  3. My goodness. They brought back Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla, Andy Van Slyke and Doug Drabek?Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell were brought back from the dead? No?Then Pens.

I think the Pittsburgh Crawfords have a better chance at shocking the world then the Buccos.

  4. DO YOU EVEN HAVE TO ASK THAT. it's easily going to be the Penguins. Unless someone in the Pirates org. gets smart and decides to SPEND some money and actually put a good team on the field they will lose business. It's like my highschool football team. the last time they had a winning season I was in second grade.

  5. Oh come on we all know the Penguins are MORE likely. Even with the exodus, if it turns out at the worst, you'd still have the farm for some players. Remember the Baby Pens made it to the Calder Cup, so replacements to who leaves should at least allow a winning season.

  6. That will be a tough season all the way around in Pittsburgh. But I think the Pens will still have a better edge in having a winning season. I feel for the Pirates though

  7. ...Aren't we a m*******t today? :b

Sorry Snoopster, the Buccos are... well, at least PNC Park is gorgeous and the food's pretty good! Lol.

Some Pens fans are acting like the Pens are just going to crumble after July 1st. Man, I'm just so happy that Malkin says he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and doesn't have to make more than Sid or something so that he doesn't feel like "#2". The Pens have Malkin all-but signed (just have to wait until July 1st until everyone's legally allowed to sign the dotted lines). And the Pens filed for arbitration with Fleury, meaning they want to give him a contract even if they have to mediate between his and their terms in a dreaded arbitration hearing.

By the way... how do we feel about Fleury these days? You guys make up? Haha.

  8. The Penguins, the Pirates will never have a chance.

  9. The Pittsburgh Penguins by far

  10. Penguins. BUT - The Pirates ARE getting better, give them a few years.

    :)

  11. the pen's.

the pirates will never have a winning season ever again.

    BOOM

  12. Forgot one, The Steelers. First. Penguins 2nd. Pirates 3rd

  13. Yes, the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to lose Ryan Malone and Marian Hossa but they still have Sid The Kid and Evgeni Malkin. Does anyone remember when Crosby first entered the NHL and basically carried the team to a winning record, well now he's got players like Sergei Gonchar and Malkin and Jordan Staal to help keep up the .500 record alive.

  14. Penguins, they have young talent and they will continue to be a good team that makes it to the playofss until around 2013

  15. Definitely the Pens, although the Bucs have made a bit of improvement this season. The only problem is they need a major winning streak to get over .500, which would be a miracle. The Pens were 2 wins from the Cup, which shows that they're in it to win it.

A friend mentioned that the last time the Pirates had a winning season, we were watching Sesame Street and barely knew what alcohol or the Stanley Cup was.

  16. I don't see the Penquins losing anyone they can't replace at a reasonable price. Initially, they may lose a bit of chemistry in the process, but they'll still put out a pretty damned good team. I'm pretty sure they would have gotten just as far without Hossa as they did with him. Doesn't matter if you win 5-3 or 6-3 as long as you win.

The Pirates though, IIEEEEeeeee. Well, they did knock the c**p out of our local heros (2 of 3 last week anyway), so all may not be wasted.

I'd put my money on the Pens.

  17. It's so tough to tell right now Snoop...............lol, naaw.

I think the Penguins will be ok. They still have Malkin, Crosby, Fleury, Staal, Whitney, Letang, Sykora, Gonchar, Kennedy, etc.  Hossa possibly leaving sucks, but Hossa was more like dessert. You know what I mean? You can live and go on without it, but it's nice to have. Hossa was only with us since Feb. and was hurt a lot of the time. We still made it. Yes, over the months I have become attached to him and it hurts to see him maybe go (I'm going to cry my eyes out tomorrow, lol) but I believe we can still do it.

We just need to sign a few wingers tomorrow and voila! We're set to go.

  18. The Penguins will have a winning record, though they won't win anything.

  19. The Penguins, of course! This is such a silly question. haha

The Pirates have such a good field, but that becomes just concrete and grass if the team sucks...

  20. Definitely the Pittsburgh Penguins! That is all the PIRATES have done for years is lose!

  21. Penguins got a much better chance out of the 2!

snoop - actually the Steelers division is a big threat this year.

  22. I gotta give this one to Penguins. Even though they lost a few players they still have some really great ones!

  23. The Pens for sure. Even as the players seem to be headed elsewhere they are merely readjusting for next season.

As for the Pirates, I have no sense that they are trying to get better.
