  1. It's funny that all these fanboi's respond with their weak answer of "Montreal Canadians". We can all agree that the Canadians have won the most cups but that does not make them the best team in NHL history.

Look at it this way. You have two arms and your in a pushup contest against a bunch of one armed people. Of course you are going to win.

If you stake your success against the success of your peers then you will see that the Canadians were in a league of their own as there were no other teams that could match them. Let's use a volkswagen bug compared to a league full of model T's.

Today's NHL boasts the most amazing players compared to the non talented neanderthals back then. Let's compare today versus back then...Today we have corvette convertibles against the old volkswagen bugs.

Most teams back then had one good player and the rest were beer swilling, knuckle dragging idiots. Montreal took hockey serious back then while all the others had a different focus.

Take the best Canadians teams of yesteryear and pit them against the worst NHL team this year and it will be a close match or series. So to say the Canadians were the best team is the most gd stupid answer ever.

  2. Toronto Maple Leafs

    mmmppphhhhh

    smirkkkkkkkkkkkkk

    hehehehehehehe

    BWAAAA HAAAA HAAAAA HAAAAAAaaaaaaaa

  3. The ONLY answer to this question is the Montreal Canadiens.

  4. I have to say the Leafs. How can a team not be great when people are still filling the rink and raving about their last cup win 42 years ago.

  5. The 1966-67 Toronto Maple Leafs were so great the franchise didn't find it necessary to win the cup for another 41+ years. Not only that but 9 of the players and the coach of that team are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Another player is a director of the Hall. Therefore 11 guys from that bench in the hall.

  6. The Montreal Canadiens - 24 Stanley Cups.

  7. The 1999 Rangers?  Seriously?

You know it's bad when I can't even get behind a pro-rangers answer, heh.  The team didn't even make the playoffs... in a league where more than half of the teams do...

But I have to agree with everyone else... the Canadiens have been the most successful franchise in NHL history.

EDIT:  Subhuman, I respectfully disagree.  I know the league wasn't the same back then... there were only 6 teams for many of their cups, and the teams had the rights to the players in their area (which is why the Rangers have so few cups... NY isn't big for hockey development).  But that doesn't mean that the Canadiens didn't deserve those cups, or that the players that won those cups weren't deserving.  Plus, the game has changed.  You put some of today's teams into the game back in the day... without padding or goalie masks... and see who wins.  I'd say the teams from the past beat the teams from today 9.5 times out of 10.

  8. You have to say the Montreal Canadiens.  No other team NHL team past or present has been anywhere near as successful.

  9. In terms of sucsess the Montreal Canadians

My biased b/c I'ma  fan of that team: The Buffalo Sabres

    Indivudial Team: 1984 Oilers

  10. do you mean which team or which franchise?

if it is franchise your looking at i would go with montreal. cant argue with how many cups they won

team though i would go with the islanders of the 80s specially when potvin roamed the ice.

    dennins potvin

  11. Franchise= Montreal Canadiens

Single Season= 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens. Most points in a season and a goal differential of 216 goals, 387 goals for and 171 goals against.

  12. Im gonna have to go with the 01-02 Red Wings.

Yzerman, Hasek, Hull, Robitalle, Lidstrom, Shanahan, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Chelios (younger)

    all future Hall of Famers.

  13. the edmonton oilers of old. with Messier, Gretzky, kurri and the rest of them

  14. Franchise: Montreal Canadiens

Team: I'd say the '99 Rangers were pretty good. Kovalev, LaFontaine, Messier, Gretzky.

Team in Hockey (ever): The Soviet Red Army team in '76. The Flyers beat them though, so possible the '75 and '76 Flyers!

  15. lol I think this is more of an opinion based question. I have afew I really like- the Canadians, Avs, Dallas... there are a few that have had great years and then some years sucked.

  16. In my opinion the 1986-87 Edmonton Oilers who won the Presidents Cup and the Stanley Cup.

Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, Fuhr, (all hall of famers) plus Anderson, Nilsson, Tikkanen, McTavish, Lowe, Moog. They were near unbeatable.

The best ever franchise is the Habs as we all know.

  17. The Mighty Ducks

  18. the 1970's Montreal Canadiens, best team ever in the history of time, im a little reved up

by the way, the montreal canadiens have 24 stanley cups

  19. The answer has to be the Montreal Canadiens. They lead the NHL with the most Stanley Cups! (23)

  20. Not a fan of theirs but i say Montreal with the 23 cups

  21. I notice that you asked about TEAMS, not Franchises.

I don't have a whole lot of historical perspective, except the teams since I've been following hockey, but I'd have to rank the 91-92-93 Pens up there.

  22. The '95 New Jersey Devils.

There has NEVER been a more dominant team, from the crash line to Scott Stevens, Bruce Driver, Claude Lemieux..Martin Brodeur..etc..

If you mean overall franchise.. The Toronto Maple Leafs.

  23. Since great can be defined in so many ways, and overcoming adversity is a sign of greatness, and my team is entering it's 42'nd year of adversity, DA BUDS.

Winning is just so highly over-rated when measuring greatness, doncha know?

  24. Montreal.
