  1. Definatley Rangers

  2. Probably the Devils. They have a strong Goaltender Martin Brodeur and a pretty strong offense.

  3. I think Rangers. Rangers did good signing Wade Redden, and Marcus Naslund. Losing Sean Avery Won't hurt them much. Rangers have a great chance of Winning the cup.

  4. I gotta go with the Devils as well. Rangers seem to have a knack for getting the least out of their star signings.

  5. Rangers... Rolston is all NJ did really to improve, HOlik's no big deal; unless Elias has a standard full season and Gionta plays like his old self.. then maybe we'll see..

  6. Neither team is going to win the Stanley Cup.  I think both teams will be competing for the bottom three playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, with the Rangers doing slightly better in the regular season.  Look at the teams in the Eastern Conference, Montreal, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are all solid and potentially excellent teams.  Washington could have a breakout year with all the young talent they have in their system.  Ottawa still has Heatley, Alfreddson and Spezza.

Brodeur really showed serious age and fatigue in the playoff series against the Rangers.  Anyone who watched that series knows that he gave up at least one bad goal a game.  He's still amazing, but the fact is that he's averaging 70 games a season.  Basically, the Devils can limit his playing time in the regular season and risk losing some games with the backup in net or they can play him all season like they usually do and risk watching him collapse down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Holik is garbage.  Rolston is a solid player who fits perfectly with the Devils system.

I think the Rangers are in a transition year this season.  With the departure of Jagr they now lack a true top-6 winger.  Zherdev is talented but unreliable and Naslund is on the downside of his career.

Redden is overpaid and is really not a number one defenseman.

However, Lundqvist has been a Vezina candidate in all three of his first three seasons, despite being worn out in his second year by winning Olympic gold midseason and being distracted in his third year by his father having serious health problems.  There is no reason why he won't contend for the Vezina again this year.

New York Rangers = 5th seed

New Jersey Devils = 6th seed

Neither team beats the Penguins or the Canadiens in the playoffs.

  7. All the rangers seem to have done is gotten rid of their leadership in shanahan and straka, jagr was a bit of a problem, but was the leading scorer.  In all, the rags lost backman, tyutin, straka, jagr, shanny, malik, strudwick, avery, and gained zherdev, voros, fristche, redden, and khalinin, and are pushed to the cap with little to no wiggle room.  They lost 3 of teams top 5 scorers, have very little on the wing, and lost avery which means probably a season split between the devs and the rags.

The devils lost brylin and asham, a total of 12 goals and 26 points for rolston, who got 31 goals, 59 points, and holik, who is not garbage, but will be a great 4th line center, and holik also had more points at 34.

The rags do have lundqvist but the devs have brodeur, and no he will not dramatically slow down, people have been saying hes slowing down for the past 3 years, and he only seems to have another veznia

I say the devils have the edge

  8. depends on what you mean by better...

better at stinking up the tri-state area? the devils by far!  They have an over the hill goalie, and their post-season moves remind me of the ones the rangers made in the late 90s that led to ummm, no playoff berth at all

The blueshirts on the other hand have acquired new talent, unloaded their "on their way out" vets... look forward to them dominating the devs all season... i know i will :)

  9. rangers. i think they have a chance at the cup final this year
